「わたしの主、わたしの神よ！」(ヨハネ20:28)
ご復活おめでとうございます。
今年も私たち教会共同体は、新たな兄弟姉妹を迎えた喜びに満ち溢れ、キリストの神秘体の成長に歓喜の声を上げています。受洗者の皆さん、心からお慶び申し上げます。 復活節に朗読されるイエスの復活に関する多くの箇所では、すべての箇所に共通する非常に印象的な特徴があります。イエスが弟子たちに現れた場所は、海辺、家の中、道中など、実に様々ですが、現実から逃げ惑う弟子たちは常に緊張し、罪悪感や恐怖に苛まれ、イエスへの信仰を疑っていました。しかし、すべての箇所に共通するのは、復活したイエスに出会った途端、彼らの恐れ、疑念、罪悪感、怒り、そして不信が、喜び、信仰、そして赦しに取って代えられたということです。復活したキリストとの出会いは彼らを根本から完全に変え、彼らはすでに復活の恵みを味わい始めたのです。弟子たちは、「道で話しておられるとき、また聖書を説明してくださったとき、わたしたちの心は燃えていたではないか」と語り合い、（ルカ24:32）また、「本当に主は復活して、シモンに現れたと言っていた。」(同 34)のです。
私たちは、人生において復活が死んだ時か世の終わりに起こるものだと考えがちです。しかし、私たちの信仰は、イエスとの個人的な出会いを深める時に、復活の意味を少しだけ味わうことができると教えています。イエスに近づくことは、私たちの現世における最も深い喜びの一つであり、天国(神との一致)を不完全ながらも味わう方法なのです。ですからすべての聖人たちは、イエスとの深い出会いが私たちの不安や恐れを軽減し、神への信仰と信頼を強めると教えているのです。聖ヨハネは「神の名を信じているあなたがたに、これらのことを書き送るのは、永遠のいのちを得ていることを悟らせたいからです。何事でも神の御心に適うことを私たちが願うなら、神は聞き入れてくださる。これが神に対するわたしたちの確信です。わたしたちは、願い事は何でも聞き入れてくださるということが分かるなら、神に願ったことは既にかなえられていることも分かります。」（ヨハネの手紙5:13-15）と私たちを励まし続けています。
司教となった今でも、私は出来事をほとんどコントロールできず、一寸先の未来も分からないことを自覚しています。ですから毎晩寝る前に、意識的に私の霊魂と、神から託されたすべての人々の霊魂を神の御手に委ね、こう祈ります。「主よ、目覚めている間、私たちをお守りください。眠っている間、私たちを見守ってください。目覚めている間、私たちはキリストと共に目を覚まし、眠っている間、キリストの平安の中で休むことができますように・・・。」そうすると私は、どんな時もぐっすり眠れるのです! !
私たちは神に愛されています。ですから、信者として、神に信頼し、人生を神の御手に完全に委ねなければならないのです。そうすれば、今すぐにでも復活の喜びを味わうことができるのです。

Easter Message 2026 ~ Bishop Wayne
“My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28)
Happy Easter! This year, our church community is filled with joy as we welcome new brothers and sisters into our lives, and we rejoice in the growth of the Mystical Body of Christ. To all the newly baptized, I extend my heartfelt congratulations.
As we go through the Easter Season and we read the many accounts of Jesus Resurrection, there is a very striking feature common to all the accounts. Even though Jesus appears to the disciples at very different venues: near the sea, in houses, and on roads etc., the disciples are always on edge, feeling guilty, are fearful and are doubting their faith in Jesus. What is common to all the accounts is that once they encounter the Resurrected Jesus their fears, doubts, guilt and lack of faith is replaced by joy, faith, and a feeling of forgiveness. Their encounter with the Risen Christ completely changes them and they begin to have a taste of the grace of the Resurrection. The disciples said to one another, “Were not our hearts set on fire when he spoke to us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32) “And they said, ‘The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.’” (Luke 24:34)
In our own lives we usually think of Resurrection as something that will happen to us when we enter eternal life. However, our faith teaches us that we can get a little taste of what Resurrection means when we deepen our personal encounter with Jesus. Getting closer to Jesus is one of the joys of our present life and it is a way to get a foretaste of heaven. All the saints tell us that a deep encounter with Jesus will lessen our worries and our fears. It will strengthen our faith and our trust in God. In the words of St. Peter, “Do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge; and to your knowledge, add self-control; and to your self-control, add patience; and to your patience, add service for God; and to your service for God, add kindness for your brothers and sisters in Christ; and to this kindness, add love.” (Peter 2 1:5-7)
Even now as a bishop I realize that I have little control of events and that I do not know the future. So, every night before I sleep, I consciously put my soul and the souls of all those who have been entrusted to me by God, into his hands by saying this prayer: “Protect us, Lord as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep rest in his peace.” Then I get a good night’s sleep!!!! We are loved by God, and as believers we must trust Him and place our lives completely in His hands so that we can experience the joy of the Resurrection.
