第81回「慰霊の日」は、今年も小禄カトリック教会から魂魄の塔までの巡礼を通して記念されました。今年の参加者は、東京、大阪、さらには仙台からも集まりました。また今年は、他の宗派・教派から参加された方々もいました。
ミサが始まる前には、長崎大司教からの心温まるメッセージが朗読されました。81年前の沖縄戦で失われた多くの命を、教区とともに心に留める時間となりました。
巡礼に先立ち、小禄教会の信徒の皆さんが参加者のために軽食を準備してくださいました。巡礼は午前7時に始まり、巡礼者たちは16kmの道のりを歩きました。その途中、3か所で続けて立ち止まり、祈りを捧げ、記録された戦争体験に耳を傾けました。
魂魄の塔では、沖縄全域で行われる正午の黙祷に合わせ、巡礼者たちも集まり祈りを捧げました。
慰霊の日は、ウェイン司教による平和メッセージ「沖縄の叫び：もう戦争はいらない！」をもって締めくくられました。
Highlights of Okinawa Memorial Day 2026
The 81st Irei no Hi was commemorated once again through the pilgrimage from Oroku Catholic Church to Konpaku no To. This year’s participants came from Tokyo, Osaka, and even Sendai. This year, there were some who came from other religious denominations as well. Before the Holy Mass began, a heartwarming message from the Archbishop of Nagasaki was read. Joining the Diocese in remembering the lives lost in the Battle of Okinawa 81 years ago. Prior to the pilgrimage, the Oroku parishioners prepared a light meal for everyone. The pilgrimage started at 7:00 a.m. and the pilgrims walked 16 km, making three consecutive stops for prayer and listening to documented war experiences. At Konpaku no To, pilgrims gathered for the 12:00 noon silence observed all throughout Okinawa. The Irei no Hi concluded with Bishop Wayne’s Peace Message “The Cry of Okinawa: No More War!”
